Certain college courses (including those which are taken Independent Study through accredited colleges such as MidPlains or Central Community Colleges) may qualify as “Dual Credit” courses. Dual Credit courses are those in which the student received both college and high school credit for the course. If the course is not required for graduation, the student has the choice of receiving college credit only or both college and high school credit.
If the student elects to take the course as a dual credit, the course will be determined a “core course” and will count towards Honor Roll and GPA. Students will need to have a minimum GPA of 3.75 to take a college course unless approved by administration. Juniors will be offered 1 class period to work on a college course if meeting MAP Scores of 250 or an ACT score of 22 in Math for Math courses. A MAP score of 230 in Reading and a MAP score of 230 in Language or an ACT score of 18 in both English and Reading will be required for English Courses. Seniors will be offered 2 class periods if meeting the same MAP requirements, provided at least one of those courses is Dual Credit. If a student drops the class, the student will receive an “F” for not completing the coursework. It will be the responsibility of each student and their family to pay for the courses and books required for the course. Online tuition is currently $150. A scholarship may be available to your student if certain financial qualifications are met. The family is responsible for applying for any scholarship available.
